It is not highly infectious, but can cause severe and permanent damage to the skin, nerves, limbs and eyes if untreated. Treatment is simple, effective and free in all countries so that leprosy can now be cured easily and cheaply through multi-drug therapy (MDT). Eradication of the disease worldwide is a realistic goal. However, those affected by the disease need not only a medical cure, but help in rebuilding their shattered lives." The Meeting Room
The Meeting Room is a registered charity operating in the Mole Valley and Epsom areas. "The charity was founded in 2014 by Graham Peddie MBE, who was a leading advocate for assisting the most vulnerable people in our community. Our clients are of all backgrounds and ages and our focus is to provide meaningful support to those with a wide variety of issues including homelessness, poverty, physical or mental health difficulties, breakdown of relationships, social exclusion and loneliness and issues with alcohol or drugs. The Meeting Room is often the first port of call for the homeless, those struggling with poverty or with addictions and those for whom social exclusion and loneliness is an everyday reality." Bookham Youth Project
This is the Bookham part of the larger Leatherhead Youth Project which launched in 2005 to provide much needed services for young people in Leatherhead North. They now offer support in Leatherhead, Bookham and across Mole Valley and their aim is to help young people be safe, happy, resilient, and able to make positive changes in their own lives and in their community.
